Real Life Testimonial

by Westphal

“I was walking through Marylebone Station and as I exited the station, I was asked by a man walking behind me whether I had any money. I said no. He persisted in his questions. I had a pregnant friend with me and was mindful of a situation occurring.

I turned to the man and responded negatively that I had no money. The man came closer to me. I put my hand on him (putting up “the fence”) and told him I didn’t want any trouble. He got annoyed. I asked him to calm down. At that point he asked me again for money and threatened me with a stabbing if I would not comply. I asked him whether he had ever had his hair in a ponytail in order to distract him, following quickly with an elbow strike to the face.

There was a tussle, I stuck my fingers in his eyes and disengaged. I made sure my friend was ok and then walked quickly back to my office entrance.

When interviewed by the Police I was positively commended by them on my pre-emptive behavior when threatened by a potential attacker, well known to them and our security.

From one lesson with Paul (Urban Krav, Kensington and Chelsea) I managed to employ the fence technique to gain space and protect myself and distract my attacker so that I could pre-empt his threat to stab me. Paul could well have saved my life.”
